At the Zoo!
Today we spent almost the entire day at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. We had planned to stay only a few hours but it was much larger and much more exciting than we had thought. It is home to hundreds of animals from around the world, many from the African Plains. It is a 6 km circuit that meanders through natural bushland and around large open style exhibits. It is set up to drive through the circuit, stopping along the way to get out and walk the various trails that take you to see the animals. I think we must have walked a total of 10 km or more going from exhibit to exhibit. It was certainly worth the walk. We saw many animals that neither of us have ever seen before. We were surprised to find that meerkats are so small and that the rhinos and hippos are so big! The baby hippo was unbelievably cute! We sat and watched a gibbon swing effortlessly through a maze of ropes and trees. He was amazing to watch, so agile! We were able to wonder amongst some native Australian animals, like kangaroos and emus! It was a sensational day but we are both totally exhausted!
